Cell phones have transformed the way that we do many things in our lives. Instead of pulling over to the nearest gas station to use a pay phone, we simply reach into our pocket or purse for our cell phone. When we leave work and head for home, we can call ahead using our cell phone to give instructions for dinner preparations to our children. The kids can call from the mall using their cell phone to ask for a ride home and so forth.
In fact, cell phones have replaced the contents of wallets as a means of locating contact information in the case of an emergency. Rescue personnel are now trained to look for a cell phone whenever they respond to a call that deals with an unconscious person. Today, many people list emergency contact numbers in their cell phones under the heading, ICE.
ICE stands for in case of emergency. It only takes a few minutes for someone to enter an emergency contact name into his or her cell phone. It’s easy to identify the person as an emergency contact simply by listing ICE before the name. Then, it will take even less time for the emergency rescue personnel to locate the contact information and make the call.
Even though you hope that the information is never needed, you will be glad that you included it should you ever fall into a situation where it is needed. Plus, you can list more than one emergency contact by placing a single digit after ICE such as ICE-1, ICE-2, and so on. This system allows you to list more than one person as an emergency contact. It might not be something that you want to think about, but it is something worth doing.
